Reviewed here 30 cases of primary gastrointestinal lymphoma in adult treated at
Yonsei Medical Center from 1970 to 1981. The incidence was 9.26% of all
lymphoma(324) observed during the same period. There was no particular age
predominance and male to female ratio was 2 : 1.
Distribution according to the Ann Arbor system showed 6 cases(20%) in stage ¥°,
13(43%) in stage ¥±, 3(10%) in stage ¥² and 8(27%) in stage ¥³. The most common
initial presenting symptom was abdominal pain(53%), and abdominal mass(40%),
dyspepsia(20%) and melena(10%) in order. The sites of involvement were the large
intestine in 12 cases(40%), the small intestine in7(23%) , the ileocecal area in 5(17%)
and the stomach in 6(20%).
Histological classification by Rappapert method in 21 cases, 20 were non-Hodgkin's
lymphoma and 1 Hoagkin's disease (mixed cellularity) All of NHL were diffuse type and
half of them (50%) lymphocytic poorly differentiated.
Clinical follow-up was available in 13 cases and 3 year survival rate of them was
71% in stage I & ¥± and overall 41.7%.
